Holiday Spirit

We are officially in the Christmas spirit here at Mt. Esty Manor!

Last week was a busy week.  Our home has been decorated, the wreath and live centerpiece were picked up from the farm stand, the cards were ordered, some gift shopping was done and invites for holiday gatherings were sent out.

One of the things that we do not agree on here at Mt. Esty (and we truly don’t disagree on much) is when to start decorating and celebrating Christmas.  D is bah humbug about the holidays and would like the tree to go up the weekend before Christmas and taken down the day after.  Where as C is more like Buddy the Elf and would like to start everything Christmas the weekend after Thanksgiving.  (Although, C agrees with D that the tree should come down before celebrating New Years.)

However, one thing we strongly agree upon is how we feel about clutter.  We both detest it. When all the decorations first come up from the basement it is overwhelming to think where are all these going and how are we going to add it to our current decor without it feeling like too much stuff.  In the end we have found decorating harmony and each room in our home has a touch of Christmas (without feeling cluttered).

The best part about the Holidays are the traditions that you either grew up with or have created together.  Our favorite kick off to Christmas tradition is to go into Boston each year and see the Christmas tree and lights at Faneuil Hall.  We decided to go this past weekend as a reward for all of our hard work last week.  The weather was absolutely perfect for our trip making walking around the city with all the lights enchanting.  We had dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant in the North End and stopped at a local bakery to bring home some treats. The tree was as beautiful as ever and the light show was spectacular.

We hope that everyone else is easing into the holidays stress free and are too able to find a balance with all the work that goes into making the season magical and actually enjoying the magic you’ve created.
